Anemoia (n.) a longing for a past era you did not live.
These photos were taken at Old Willow Shopping Center in Willow Springs, IL. Some storefronts still house local businesses. The rest are abandoned. Walking through, I could still feel the lively energy of the people who once moved along what is now a vacant path.
Looking back at the photos, I think about the memories the walls carry: the couch, the steps where people sat, the windows they looked out of and into.
I wasn’t there for any of it, but someone was.
Technical Background
Shot on Kodak Portra 400 color negative film with a Minolta X-700 35mm SLR. ISO 400 is a versatile middle ground: fast enough for dim interiors and overcast skies, with Portra’s forgiving latitude for the bright spots.
